50th deviation, funnily enough.

Because I get sick of all the stereotypes. Really I do. I've tried for the past half hour to write a summary of counterarguments to the stereotypes about fanart that are being rebutted by this stamp, but let's just say that I've found it impossible to encompass all of the arguments surrounding the issue.

But I'll say this much. When you say all fanart is unoriginal and there can be no such thing as creative or innovative fanart, that people do fanart for pageviews and little else, and that fanartists are not true artists and fanart is not true art, you are doing something called STEREOTYPING. You are making an unfair assumption and by that unfairly looking down your nose at some fantastic works. While there is some grain of truth in stereotypes (Thus the "I don't trace, I don't copy" lines), unless you can prove your statement, it's an invalid assumption, and that's all there is to it.

What if I drew a stick figure on Paint in thirty seconds and posted it up here? No artistic styling, no neat pose. Just a plain old crappy stick figure. Would it be any more "real art" or more "original" just because it wasn't posted in the fanart section? No, it wouldn't. And would I be any more of an artist than someone who works mainly in fanart? Not really. By giving art - and I mean ALL art - any kind of negative label you are diminishing your ability to appreciate it. And you will miss out on great pieces. And in the meantime, what will you achieve? Spitting out a bunch of rather insulting stereotypes isn't going to encourage other people to see your point of view. And eventually, one of those stereotypes is going to come back and bite you in the butt. Because they're nothing more than assumptions.

Fanart haters, chew on that for a bit.

Fanart artists - or anyone who may wish to use it - feel free to use this stamp.

very cool stamp...that retarded I mean almost everything an artist creates is fan art. Every idea that comes out is based on something you've alright seen like a tree for instances and anyways it's only unoriginal if it looks exactly like the original artist work and that's not possible because everyone's work comes out different.

Looks like someone's set their phaser to stunning!

It wouldn't bother me normally except I feel like I've been seeing a lot more of it lately. That could correlate with the fact that I have a lot more free time to spend on here, but still.

That was one of the arguments that I didn't manage to get in. I think I first saw it around Fanart week for Project Educate, not too long after I joined (though that's not saying much). But yeah, pretty much the main difference between fanart and other art is that fanart is based off of stuff that has a copyright on it.

An artist is an artist no matter what they create. And actually I've seen some fan art out there that is better then the original work lol
