Literature Text

If you've never felt the cold
How can you know the relief of the thaw?

If you've never felt the heat
How can you know the relief of the shade?

If you've never broken a sweat
How can you know the bliss of a breeze?

If you've never been dirty
How can you know what it feels to be clean?

If you've never strained or lifted a finger
How can you know the feeling of accomplishment?

If nothing goes wrong
How can you know the joy of being right?

If you've never faced defeat
How can you know triumph?

If you've never experienced death
How can you know to cherish life?

If you live in a utopia
How can you know what perfect is?
A utopia can't exist in my opinion.

Because if life is perfect, then you miss out on the things that enrich our lives.

An idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a while.

Happy New Year, everybody.

The Giver is one good example of a "dys/utopia" in your sense. It's perfect to the point where they reprimanded the main character for saying he was "starving." They told him he would never starve. He was hungry.

Wouldn't eternal peace get kinda boring after a few thousand years?

Yes, it would. To me, at least.
